A Glimpse into 2024: Design Shanghai's International Media Breakfast Unveils Show Highlights

On the 1st of February, the Design Shanghai International Media Breakfast was successfully hosted at The Old Sessions House in London, drawing the attendance of over 30 international media representatives to mark the new commencement of Design Shanghai.

Zhuo Tan, Managing Director of Clarion Events China and Show Director of Design Shanghai, reflected upon the decade-long journey of Design Shanghai during the media briefing. She discussed the robust growth of the Chinese design market and unveiled to the international media the fresh visage and highlights of the 2024 exhibition.

Moreover, product designer and Curator of TALENTS, Frank Chou, shared at the event TALENTS' commitment to nurturing the growth of burgeoning design talent and disclosed this year's novel theme: "Quest the Question." Industrial designer and Curator of neooold, Min Chen, stated that expanding the significance of craftsmanship has always been one of the directions neooold is keen to develop. At the media briefing, Ms. Chen first reviewed the 2023 neooold theme: "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the Forest"; and announced this year's theme would be "Art·Extension," presented by the architectural firm line+ led by architect Meng Fanhao. The design will create a meticulous and tranquil space by drawing upon the cultural symbol of Dougong, a traditional architectural element.

Aidan Walker, Design Shanghai Forum Programme Director, Orianna Fielding, Chief Sustainability and Content Director of the Sustainable Design China Summit, and Chris Lefteri, Curator of Materials Lab, Juliet Kinsman, Sustainability Editor of Condé Nast Traveller, among other prominent guests, also graced the event. They engaged closely with the media, revealing more highlights of the exhibition. The media in attendance included the Financial Times, Elle Decoration, Dezeen, Condé Nast Traveller, Tank, Homes & Gardens, Citizen Femme, and others.
