Born in Beijing, Ma Yansong is the first Chinese architect to win a major landmark building overseas, as well as the most internationally influential Chinese architect. He is committed to exploring the future of architecture, advocating the combination of urban density, functionality and traditional oriental aesthetic mood, by re-establishing the emotional connection between man and nature, towards a new era of urban civilization with the human spirit at the core. 2014, Ma Yansong won an international competition to become the chief designer of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in the United States, and became the first Chinese designer to win the right to design an important cultural landmark overseas. At the same time, through a series of domestic and international solo exhibitions, publications and artworks, he has explored the multiple values of society, city and humanity.

In 2006, Ma Yansong was awarded the New York Architectural League's Young Architect Award, and in 2008, he was named one of the “20 Most Influential Young Designers in the World” by ICON Magazine, and one of the “10 Most Creative Architects in the World 2009” by Fast Company Magazine. In 2010, he was awarded the International Fellowship of RIBA by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and in 2014, he was selected as one of the “Young World Leaders 2014” by the World Economic Forum. “Young World Leader 2014”.

Ma Yansong studied at Beijing Architecture and Engineering College (now Beijing Architecture University) and later graduated from Yale University with a master's degree. He has been a visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing Architecture University and the University of Southern California (USC) and Yale University (USA).
