Masataka Hosoo

President and CEO, Hosoo Co., Ltd.

Born in 1978, Masataka Hosoo is the 12th-generation head of Hosoo, a prestigious Nishijin-ori weaving company established in 1688. After graduating from university and pursuing a career in music, he joined a major jewelry manufacturer. Following his time there, he studied abroad in Florence and joined Hosoo in 2008. He has been instrumental in developing innovative textiles using Nishijin-ori techniques and expanding their reach globally. His unique art textiles have garnered high acclaim from top maisons worldwide, supplying to Dior, Chanel, Hermes, Cartier, and five-star hotels like The Ritz-Carlton. He actively collaborates with artists such as David Lynch and Teresita Fernández.

In 2012, he founded the "GO ON" project, bringing together successors of Kyoto's traditional crafts of his generation to promote traditional arts both in Japan and internationally. He has been recognized in Nikkei Business as one of "Japan's 100 Most Influential People of 2014," in WWD as a "Next Leader 2019," and in "Forbes Japan 100" in 2021. In 2021, he published his first book, "Challenging the World with Japanese Aesthetics."
