Chinghua Chen
Design Director of the China Design Studio, Kohler Kitchen & Bath
Chinghua Chen is currently the Design Director of the China Design Studio at Kohler Kitchen & Bath, where he leads product innovation and user experience design initiatives across categories at China region. In this role, he is responsible for driving localized product strategy, advancing user-centered design practices, and contributing to Kohler’s long-term innovation vision through cross-functional and cross-regional collaboration. With over 20 years of experience in design and innovation, Chinghua is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Institute of Design in Chicago. Prior to joining Kohler, he held a variety of design and strategy-related roles across multiple industries, working in areas including user research, market and innovation strategy, brand marketing, and product & design consulting. His professional experience spans both domestic and international markets, having collaborated with numerous well-known global and local brands. In 2008, Chinghua relocated to Shanghai, where he has since lived and worked, developing a deep understanding of Chinese consumer behavior, cultural context, and lifestyle trends. This long-term immersion in the local market continues to inform his approach to design leadership and innovation, bridging global design thinking with local relevance. Beyond his professional life, Chinghua is a passionate food enthusiast and skilled home cook, with a strong interest in music, singing, film, and a variety of outdoor sports. He believes that rich life experiences and curiosity beyond design are essential sources of inspiration for creating meaningful and human-centered products.
