ALBERT CHAN KAIN BON
Director of Development Planning & Design, Shui On Land
K. B. Albert Chan leads the conceptualization, site feasibility, master planning and design management of large mixed-use developments at Shui On Land. Over the last 20 years, Albert actively participated in the planning and development of award winning mixed-use “Tiandi” communities in Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing, Dalian, Hangzhou and Foshan. He also chairs the Sustainable Development Committee at the company.
Among the projects Albert actively participated over the years, the Shanghai Xintiandi development became the first development in China to be honored with the Urban Land Institute’s Award for Excellence in 2003. The Shanghai Taipingqiao community is recognized by The World Bank as a successful case of urban regeneration in 2016. The Knowledge and Innovation Community in Yangpu, Shanghai was recognized by ULI as a positive example of urban regeneration in 2014. The Foshan Lingnan Tiandi historic city core regeneration project won the American Institute of Architects’ National Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design in 2009. The Wuhan Tiandi development received the CTBUH global Urban Habitat Award in 2016. The majority of Shui On communities under development are LEED-ND Gold stage two certified. In terms of public place creation, over 260 public plazas, parks and public streets have been planned and built in these communities.
Albert graduated from the Stern School at NYU, Columbia University, and U.C. Berkeley. He is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute, an Advisor of Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, and a member of the American Institute of Architects Shanghai Board of Directors. In 2014, he was a recipient of the Shanghai Green Building Council’s “Special Individual Contribution Award”.
