Japanese lacquer is a centuries-old craft, but designer Seiko Yoshimura believes it has unexplored potential as a medium within contemporary fashion as well. To create her original accessories, she uses various traditional techniques, such as gold lacquer(gold Maki-e) and mother-of-pearl lacquers(Raden), and “kawari nuri”. This is a method of layering the lacquer unevenly, and then extracting various patterns by polishing the surface. Lacquer may seem like a surprising material for jewelry, but the smooth texture is reminiscent of human skin. Soft to the touch, lacquer seems to exude its own warmth that is in harmony with the skin, and therefore pleasant to wear. Each work is a special piece, designed to adorn every day with a little radiance. Please feel their beauty with your own hands.
