The Present of Time is a series of incense works that explores the material properties of incense, reinterpreting its long-preserved forms and incorporating the transformation into ash as part of the design narrative.
Once used as a tool for measuring time, incense is no longer valued for precision or efficiency. Instead, through its slow combustion, it reveals a vivid experience of life and invites a renewed perception of time. Blending innovative craftsmanship with traditional incense culture and sustainable thinking, the work transforms the act of burning incense into a multisensory, poetic experience of seasonal change and reflection on life. Rooted in the Chinese solar terms and Zen philosophy, it translates cultural memory into a contemporary language and becomes a medium for cross-cultural dialogue. Closely intertwined with Zen thought, incense reminds us that when we focus on “this moment,” the Present is both the present itself and a gift from time.
