WEAVING NATURE
Centered on the concept of natural symbiosis, Hu Yuehua’s textile installation constructs a vibrant “second nature” through the use of natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, velvet, and satin. Integrating traditional techniques—including indigo dyeing, pleating, patchwork, folding, and stitching—the work artistically interweaves elements like fungi, plants, mountains, rocks, and water into a cohesive visual language.
Within the installation, different materials and techniques are used to evoke natural forms: pleated textures suggest layered mountain strata; indigo dye captures the fluidity of water; patchwork and hand-twisting allude to plant growth; and soft textiles symbolize the subtle, symbiotic presence of fungi. These elements are intricately interlaced within the fabric structure, forming an organic whole that conveys a philosophy of interconnectedness among all living things.
The work not only engages with themes of sustainability but also reflects the artist’s profound ecological awareness. By merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary expression, it articulates the rhythms of life and the breath of nature through rich layers and meticulous detail.
