Katsuko Nakashima Graduated from the Department of Design at Osaka University of Arts. From 1971 to 1976, she was based in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, a centre renowned for its ceramic heritage. In 1976, she relocated to Ena, Gifu Prefecture, where she continues her practice. Her accolades include the Silver Prize at the Japan Ceramic Design Competition (1984), the Excellence Award in the “Public Space Proposal” category at the World Ceramic Festival (1991), and the Grand Prize at the 2nd Nisshin Food Contemporary Noodle Bowl Award Exhibition (1994). She later received an Encouragement Award at the Asahi Contemporary Crafts Exhibition (1997) and a Bronze Prize at the International Ceramics Festival Mino (1998). Further honours include the Gold Prize at the 2nd Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (2003), the Grand Prize in the Ceramic Competition at the Kobe Biennale (2007), and the Jury’s Special Award at the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale (2008). Recent exhibitions include Voices at Jacques Monnaux – Sazen Gallery, Tajimi (2023); Soil Message MINO in Tokyo ’24: The Forefront of Ceramic Art Inheritance at Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku, Tokyo (2024); and Alluring Forms at Koei Gallery, alongside a new acquisitions exhibition at the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu (2025). She also participated in the 24th Anniversary Exhibition, Favourite Forms, at Sukiyoshi Gallery, Aichi, Japan (2025).
