Ton-ton

"Ton-ton" is a Japanese lullaby sound — the gentle pat that eases a child into sleep. Designer Makoto Koizumi created the Tonton rocking chair as a gift of the heart, dedicated to a friend in New York on the threshold of parenthood. Born from ten prototypes and three years of quiet devotion, the Tonton is a sanctuary for both baby and parent. Its wooden frame flows in a seamless, organic curve, shaped through advanced bending techniques that make the form feel almost inevitable. Soft rockers cradle infants with tenderness; an adjustable pillow cradles the parent in return. The generous high back offers shelter as much as support — an invitation to linger, to read, to breathe. The Tonton is not merely a chair. It is a place where time slows, where the rhythm of rocking becomes the rhythm of belonging.
