First launched in 2020, Design in the City has become a signature event within Shanghai’s design landscape, dedicated to uncovering and showcasing the city’s most creative and thoughtfully designed spaces. In 2025, Design Shanghai will once again collaborate with leading brands and design communities to deliver an even more powerful experience, establishing Shanghai as a vibrant, immersive hub for creativity and innovation.

The 2025 edition will deepen the connection between design and the city, highlighting seven main categories — Art, Fashion, Lifestyle, Restaurants, Coffee & Tea, Nightlife, and Hotels — along with select featured destinations. Together, they will offer a dynamic and inspiring portrait of Shanghai’s evolving design culture.
 

2025 Key Venue Categories

01 Art: The Soulful Strokes of the City 

 

The Art section brings together a diverse range of creative expressions, from traditional painting to avant-garde installations.

Special attention is given to emerging artists, highlighting their experimental works. Through the dynamic interplay of different styles, this category infuses the city with a continuous pulse of artistic vitality.

 

02 Fashion: Where Trends Take the Stage

 

The Fashion section brings together a vibrant collection of independent designer brands, known for their innovative fabrics and unique tailoring.

Concept stores featuring global trend pieces add to the excitement, making it easy for fashion enthusiasts to stay ahead of the curve. 

 

03 Lifestyle: Curating the Art of Refined Living

 

The Lifestyle section showcases a curated selection of home décor, cultural goods, and daily essentials, all designed to elevate everyday living.

Every piece reflects a distinct aesthetic sensibility, inspiring visitors to craft spaces that are both stylish and meaningful.

 

04 Restaurants: A Designed Feast for the Senses 

 

The Restaurants section celebrates spaces where exceptional design meets culinary creativity.

The Hotels section brings together leading brands that blend Eastern aesthetics with an international perspective, creating a new design language for Shanghai’s hospitality scene.
