The British designer Tom Dixon gave a speech “The Post-COVID Design Reset” at Design China Beijing 2020 design forum, through which Tom is considering the ways in which design is going to change in a post COVID world.
COVID has provided us with a unique moment where everything stops, so that we have a bit more space to think and to breathe. Tom ponders maybe we do consume too much, maybe we do travel too much, and that is the way that the world is going to change. He believes design has to be more flexible, more elastic, and more adaptable to very quick changes in the landscape.
“We have to rethink constantly what our business model is here, what we sell, who we sell it to, where we make things. And I think design is a very good tool for helping people think through those possibilities and opening your minds to new possibilities as well.”
