GAo ShAn Helsinki is a Finnish jewelry & art gallery located in the Design District of Helsinki, the capital city of Finland. We are the only jewelry gallery in Finland. The gallery specialises in Nordic contemporary jewelry and accessories. Finnish contemporary art & design jewelry, both past and present, are the main focus of the gallery.
The history of Finnish jewelry making can be traced back to more than 100 years ago. The field of Finnish jewelry making was pretty much kick-started with the dawn of Independence from Russia as many a skillful Faberge jewelry craftsman came to work for Tillander in Helsinki. This provided the basis for talent to emerge in the golden age of jewelry from the mid-1950s until the end of the 1970s. A new trend in Scandinavian design characterised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality prevailed, and Finnish jewelry design played a big part in this. The time was ripe for Finnish contemporary jewelry to be noticed and to receive acclaim on the international stage.
At gallery GAo ShAn we have featured leading, internationally known Finnish jewelry artists and designers in our exhibitions, displaying some of the most distinguished contemporary art and design jewelry collections. Our gallery offers highly collectible modernist vintage jewelry from the 1950s to 1970s as well as presenting the leading jewelry designers and artists of the current day. The master pieces of Finnish jewelry are true to the meaning of wearable art.
The characteristics of Finnish jewelry are handcrafted by highly talented local artists and designers. Each piece is unique.
Natural, Aesthetic and Timeless describe the essence of Finnish jewelry that we would like to present to the world.
